Happy Musical New Year! posted on December 31, 2011

The musical sounds of the season were amazing this year - all sorts of different artists singing the same message of peace, hope, love and joy. I am often asked about favorites and it is really and truly just impossible to say because there is such talent in the world and I, like you, am an admirer. What I enjoyed this year above all was I think the metaphor that the music offered.

All the voices in all the styles from all over the globe, were singing the same message on Common Good Radio. We play an ecclectic mix of styles and sounds intentionally in our music programming because it is good to bring all sorts of music to the children - but this Christmas season was even more diverse than usual. I love the idea that Trisha Yearwood (country) with London Orchestra (classical instrumentation) sings next to Jackson Five (pop) next ot Ashanti next to Gloria Estafan (Latin) next to Annie Lennox (British rock) next to Mary J Blige (R&B) next to Jars of Clay, Frank Sinatra, Lonestar, Chipmunks..and so many more. All these artists singing for love and hope in the season of love and hope and the differences that seem to keep us distanced from one another seem less important than love’s message; you and I get to hear these blessings to lift the spirit!
