About the Speaker

Executive Secretary for Children, Youth and Family Advocacy
Women’s Division, General Board of Global Ministries, The United Methodist Church

Julie joined the Women’s Division in the Washington, DC office in 2000.  Her primary responsibilities have been to coordinate the Campaign for Children, Phase III with a focus on advocacy in Public School Education.  Through this position, she is a member of the Child Labor Coalition, Board of Directors for the National Farm Workers Ministry, representative to the National Council of Churches Public Education and Literacy and Justice for Children and their Families Committees, and member of the Council of Governors for the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice.

Born and raised in rural Alabama, Julie has a degree in Christian Education from Asbury College in Kentucky and is professionally certified by the United Methodist Church in Christian Education.  She has just finished a masters degree in Christian Spiritual Formation from Spring Arbor University in Michigan.  Before coming to the Women’s Division, she was the Harvest of Hope director for the Society of St. Andrew, a Christian hunger ministry located in rural Virginia.  Prior to that, Julie worked as a Program Director and Director of Youth and Children’s Ministries at United Methodist Churches.
